Among other things, crustaceans need the phospholipids
contained in lecithin for growth and moulting. Although
the quality of the phospholipids in liquid and deoiled
lecithin is the same, there are numerous technical, physiological
and finance arguments in favour of using deoiled lecithin
in shrimp feed.
Lecithin is obtained chiefly from the oil of soybeans.
About 40% of liquid crude lecithin is still soy oil. Because
of their high fat content, feed pellets made with added
liquid lecithin are relatively soft. They dissolve in
water quite quickly.
Deoiled, powdered lecithin such as BergaPur contains hardly
any oil. So feed pellets with deoiled lecithin have a
firmer consistency. They keep their shape for at least
the required time of 2.5 hours in water.
Deoiled lecithin makes for better water quality
Although the soy oil contained in crude lecithin increases
the fat content and thus the nutritional value of the
pellets, shrimps are less able to utilize soy oil than
fish oil because of its composition. Residues are left,
which pollute the water. But if deoiled lecithin is used,
the pellets contain mainly readily digestible fish oil.
There is less pollution of the water; it is therefore
a cleaner medium for the shrimps to live in and offers
better conditions for growth.
BergaPur has a standardized phospholipid content
The phospholipid content of liquid lecithin products can
vary considerably. BergaPur has a standardized phospholipid
content and therefore ensures a constant level of active
substances in the feed. Besides lecithin, shrimps need
choline, inositol and phosphorus for optimum growth. Deoiled
lecithin already contains these substances.
From the nutritional point of view they are more effective
than the corresponding synthetic products that have to
be added to the feed if liquid lecithin is used. One kilogram
of BergaPur deoiled lecithin naturally contains 36 g of
pure choline, 38 g of pure inositol and 31 g of pure phosphorus.
The use of 1.1% BergaPur in the feed covers the shrimps'
entire choline and inositol requirement.
